‘Missed Connections’ Illustrator Sophie Blackall Uses Pen to Fight Global Measels Epidemic
We love this story! Sophie Blackall’s subway poster and Etsy video sparked the imagination of folks at the Measles Initiative run by the Red Cross, UNICEF and others who provide vaccinations for children around the world. After seeing her work on the subway, they invited Sophie to visit the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) where she learned firsthand about measles and its devastating consequences. As part of the 92nd St Y’s annual Social Good Summit from September 22 – 24, Sophie will unveil a new project aimed at stopping the threat of measles. She will discuss her exhibit, “Let Every Child Have a Name: The Road to a World Without Measles,” on Saturday 9/22 at a 3:15 p.m. panel for the summit. She will also be showing the work from the Measles Initiative on Sunday 9/23 at the 92Y’s Street Fest.
